Plot: An Irish-American soldier of the Civil War enlists in the New York City police force in the 1860s. He must negotiate his perilous and chaotic immigrant neighborhood while mingling with the throngs of the black population in Harlem and uptown Manhattan. After the Civil War, he returns to discover his daughter dead and his wife gone. He is employed in the infamous Five Points area of New York and is attempting to learn the fate of his family.
