Plot: A magician's companion and assistant around the end of the nineteenth century in London is Robert Angier, his devoted wife Julia McCullough, and Alfred Borden. Robert accuses Alfred of killing Julia after she unintentionally passes away during a performance, and the two get hostile. Both rise to fame and compete as magicians, undermining the other's onstage show. Following Alfred's impressive feat, Robert develops an obsession with learning his rival's trade secret, which has disastrous results.
