Plot: In November 1984, the Soviet Union was on the eve of Gorbachev's ascension to power, and it was also the height of the Cold War between the two superpowers. The Soviet Union developed a new nuclear submarine, the Red October, and put the veteran Ramius in charge of the ship's first sea trial exercises. By this time, the CIA had also acquired information about Red October. En route, Captain Ramius kills him and orders the submarine to change course. Is a top Soviet general secretly carrying a super-military submarine, the Red Moon October, to defect to the United States or to start a nuclear war?
