Plot: Despite her family's financial struggles and her desperate need for work, African-American maid Aibileen Clark, a middle-aged woman, has spent her life caring for white children. Her only son, Minny Jackson, is also African-American, and she recently lost him. Eugenia "Skeeter" Phelan, a young white woman, recently returned home after graduating from college only to discover that her childhood maid had vanished without explanation. All three of these stories work together to show how "the help" is the center of Jackson, Mississippi, life, but racial boundaries keep them at a remove.
