Plot: Bellman is a sensitive artist amid a disintegrating society. He is regarded as an entertainer who performs as a "stand-up" artist, usually without payment. Wine and spirits are always free, which makes him addicted to alcohol and exhausted. Although happily married, he and his wife, Lovisa, live in extreme poverty. They struggle to support their family, and Lovisa tries to convince Bellman to perform to earn a living. Meanwhile, Bellman is trying to publish the "Collection of the Friedman Letters," but in vain.
